St. Mary’s General Hospital only one of 16 NJ Hospitals – and only one in County to make list
Passaic, NJ (June 3, 2026) – St. Mary’s General Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, has been named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s “100 Great Community Hospitals” for 2026, a prestigious national recognition highlighting hospitals that deliver exceptional clinical outcomes, patient care, and community impact. The annual list honors community hospitals across the country that stand out for clinical excellence, patient satisfaction, and commitment to improving the health and well-being of the communities they serve.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our physicians, nurses, and staff who work tirelessly every day to provide outstanding care,” said Edward Condit, Chief Executive Officer of St. Mary’s General. “We are deeply honored to be recognized among the nation’s top community hospitals and remain committed to advancing health equity and delivering exceptional care to the Greater Passaic Community.”
St. Mary’s General Hospital has long been a cornerstone of the community, providing comprehensive healthcare services including emergency care, surgical services, maternity care, and specialized psychiatric programs. The hospital is particularly recognized for its focus on accessible, community-based healthcare and its continual expansion of services, including the recent launch of a robotic surgery center that has improved patient outcomes and recovery, as well as the St. Mary’s General Medical Group with over a dozen specialties and more than 30 providers across Passaic, Clifton, Wallington, Lyndhurst, and Garfield.
Becker’s selection criteria include quality of care, clinical accolades, innovation, and contributions to the community, recognizing hospitals that deliver advanced medical care while maintaining strong connections to the populations they serve. St. Mary’s General Hospital’s recognition follows its recent receipt of the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades, placing it in the top 10% nationally for patient safety, and an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for the 10th consecutive round from The Leapfrog Group, designating it a “Straight A” hospital among approximately 15% of hospitals nationwide. Currently, St. Mary’s General Hospital is the top-rated acute care hospital on Google, in Northern NJ, with a consumer rating of 4.4 stars.
