(Passaic, NJ) Dr. Tyrone James Krause has joined St. Mary’s General Hospital, in Passaic, NJ, as Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Dr. Krause brings with him an impressive career spanning over 30 years in cardiothoracic surgery. Most recently, he served as the Chairman of Surgery at Jersey City Medical Center from 2012 to February 2024.
Dr. Krause is a graduate of New York Medical College; completed his general surgery training at Lincoln Hospital in Bronx, NY, a residency at UMDNJ in New Brunswick, and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship training at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.
Dr. Krause has performed over 12,000 open heart surgeries and has consistently maintained a mortality rate for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgeries well below the New Jersey state average. His innovative contributions include the development of a blood conservation program, an atrial fibrillation protocol, early extubating times, and reduced length of stay for patients, all of which have significantly improved outcomes for his patients.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Krause has served as a CAPT(S) in the United States Navy Reserves, Medical Corps, demonstrating his dedication and leadership in both civilian and military medical fields. In 2020, Dr. Krause was deployed by the United States Navy Covid-19 Response team to serve as intensivist at Elmhurst Hospital, NY, the epicenter of the epidemic.
