The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program at St. Mary’s General Hospital

The goal of the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program, with added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) at St. Mary’s General Hospital is to graduate surgeons properly trained in reconstructive surgery of the forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle. This is accomplished through a structured three-year educational program which provides an appropriate mixture of extensive clinical experiences and academics.

The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency program at St. Mary’s General Hospital intends to produce well-rounded podiatric physicians and surgeons, who will appreciate the total patient’s medical wellbeing.

Each year will be divided by level of educational emphasis and intensity, increase in duties and responsibilities and contractual assignment. The professional staff at St, Mary’s General is committed to this program and the education and training of its residents.

The training objective of the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency program at St. Mary’s General is to provide residents with the education and training necessary to acquire the experience and to develop the skills and attitudes to assure the special competence and judgment expected of today’s podiatric physician. The curriculum is structured to provide each resident with appropriate and sufficient experience in the supervised diagnosis and management of patients with a variety of diseases, disorders, and injuries through achievement of the competencies listed in our Residency Manual.

The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program With Added Credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) at St. Mary’s General is designed to meet the criteria and guidelines for evaluating Podiatric Residency Programs as set forth by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. This Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency program has been envisioned by the St. Mary’s General Residency Committee and is based upon national standards, community needs, and the philosophy of the professional staff.

Application Process

  • Applications processed through CASPR
  • Two residents accepted annually
  • Completion of Podiatric Externship program not mandatory for consideration
  • Students encouraged to visit program and spend time with current residents prior to applying

  • PGY 3 – $69,170.00
